
The Rocky Mountains stretch from northernmost British Columbia, Canada, to New Mexico, U.S. They are often referred to also as "The Rockies" or "The Colorado Rockies" in the US. Colorado also has a major-league baseball team of the same name. The span of the Rocky Mountain range is 4,800 kilometers which translates to 3,000 miles high. The highest mountain peak of the Rockies in Canada (also known as the Canadian Rockies) is Mount Robson which is a mere 12,972 feet, however the highest peak in America is on Mt. Elbert which reaches 14,440 feet above sea level. There are other 14,000 ft. mountains in the Rocky mountain range.
Among the Colorado mountains "fourteeners" are: Mt Massive, Mt. Democrat, Mt Sneffels, Pikes Peak, Mt. Columbia and many others. There are over a total of 50 fourteener mountain peaks in Colorado alone.

The Rockies rise highest in the US through the states of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Montana, and Wyoming. Between Colorado's Front Range and northern New Mexico, the Wasatch range that divides the Great Basin from mountains in the west, and the Crazy mountains which turn into the Rocky Mountain front reaching into Southwest Alberta.
