Also included in the park are three restroom facilities, six tennis courts, three picnic shelters, two playgrounds, one inline roller hockey rink, two lighted basketball courts, two lighted sand volleyball courts, as well as associated parking lots and landscape plantings. There is already more planned expansion in the works for Canyon View Park.

According the Grand Junction city website, Canyon View Parks was designed as a regional sports complex to meet the growing need for soccer and softball fields. The need for recreational space in this active community could not be ignored any longer since the last major park opened was Lincoln park. The city awarded the construction contract on February 15, 1996, and groundbreaking followed on March 28. See our gallery of pictures of Canyon View Park.

The Dog Park

At the north end of Canyon View Park, is located the Canyon View Dog Park, across the driveway and north of the softball field complex. The area is enclosed by a 6’ chain link fence with two separate double gated entry points and is approximately 3.2 acres seperated into two areas for small/senior and large/active dogs. The east point is for more active and larger dogs. The west area is for those small, senior, or shy dogs. . Each entry point allows an owner to leash and unleash their dog within a secure area. It has been proven very important that prior to them entering the off-leash area, for the dogs to be unleashed in order to avoid fights and conflicts. Such conflicts are common when the dog is on leash. Also, the multiple entry points allow for a dog to enter the park away from other dogs and avoid immediate situations within the park.
